In light of some recent events, it is apparent that a reminder about the evils of metagaming is probably in order.

As a general rule, you typically only control your own character’s actions in game. This is rule is applicable in all in-character portions of the board (i.e. Lake Wobegon, the House, Senate, your press office, etc.). To cite a recent widespread error made by a number of players, you don’t control protestors or law enforcement agencies at political conventions. For similar reasons, you don’t, for example, control special interest groups and cannot write up or even infer an endorsement of your character by a group to post in your press office. All of that sort of conduct is called metagaming and it usually leads to problems.

Stick to playing your own character and things generally run more smoothly. If you have a need for specific outside world facts to cite for some role play purpose, we have the Congressional Research Service to provide those sorts of answers or you can specifically ask one of the staff.
