Biography: Kim Azoulay was born to parents Noah and Alessia Azoulay into a relatively comfortable middle-class family in a South Shore suburb. His first experience with politics was a freshman at Tufts University, when he joined the Students for a Democratic Society and was bussed up to New Hampshire as part of "Get Clean for Gene" to campaign for Eugene McCarthy. He was outraged by RFK's entrance into the race and openly admits that he did not vote in the general election despite voting in the primary. After graduating in 1971 with a degree in sociology, Azoulay joined the Peace Corps and was stationed in South Korea for four years until late 1975. After returning, Azoulay volunteered with the Jimmy Carter campaign, and after his victory, worked as a minor staffer in the Carter administration. In 1980, Azoulay was put into the media spotlight for being the campaign organizer for a volunteering operation to promote Carter over native son Ted Kennedy, as it was generally considered quite an unfortunate job. Azoulay continued to be a Democratic political operative in the 80's, eventually working for the Gary Hart campaign. In 1988, Azoulay staffed for the campaign of successful (in the primaries) native son Michael Dukakis. In 1989, he was elected for two years as mayor of Weymouth in a rather tumultuous special election. In 1992, he became a vocal backer of native son Paul Tsongas, and ran for an open seat in Congress himself, winning with 48% over a no-name Republican and leftist splinter candidate.

Kim is considered a mainstream liberal Democrat, being an opponent of Reagan-era defense spending (and supporter of peace dividends), a supporter of legalized abortion, an opponent of the death penalty, an opponent of the Reagan-Bush War on Drugs, a proponent of "market-friendly" universal healthcare, and the expansion of environmentally-friendly public transportation. However, Kim has drawn criticism from the left for breaking from the leftist orthodoxy with his support of Operation Desert Storm, NAFTA, and center-left business-friendly "New Democrat" policies.
