Jonathan Johannes Johnson
Republican
Georgia's 3rd District
March 11, 1937

Jonathan Johannes Johnson was born in a small town in Georgia. His father had been the sheriff of the town and his mother worked in a bakery. He attended Georgia Tech where he earned a degree. During his time at the school, he worked part time at the Pickrick Cafeteria. He attended Law School and became a corporate lawyer for some company.

In 1965, his old employer tapped him to help run a campaign. He ended up working for Lester Maddox as a staffer from 1967 to 1975. When his boss chose to run for President, however, he chose not to join him. He worked for Senator Herman Talmadge until the Senate denounced him. He quit after that.

In 1979, more out of his hate from Jimmy Carter than anything else, Johnson became a Republican, and established himself by working as a local campaign manager in Carter's homestate of Georgia. Using those connections, he ran for Atlanta City Council. After proving himself a solid Republican as a member of the city council, he ran for election to the General Assembly in 1986.

In 199?, he moved on up, running in Georiga's 3rd Congressional District and winning by 5%.
