Bio: Ryan Tomlinson was born in Houston, Texas in March 1955 to Linda and Seth Tomlinson. After graduating high school in 1973, Tomlinson went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin, double majoring in Economics and Political Science. In 1978, he entered The University of Texas Law School, earning his J.D. in 1981. Upon successful bar passage, Tomlinson was hired at a prominent local firm. In 1984, Tomlinson ran for State Representative from the 27th district as a Democrat and won. After serving three terms in the Texas House, Tomlinson declined to seek reelection in order to run for US Representative from the 10th district of Texas. Narrowly defeating his Republican opponent, he was sworn in as a United States Congressman in January 1991. He ran for United States Senator for the Sunbelt in 1992 against Republican Matthias Norbert Roland. Tomlinson was defeated by Roland, garnering 45.28% of the vote to Roland's 54.02%. However, he was simultaneously on the ballot for reelection in the 10th district, which he won comfortably. Tomlinson is currently in his second term as Representative.
