Biography:
Andrew Clark was born Andrew Moonbeam Clark on October 5, 1962 to single mother Mary Jane Clark in San Francisco California. Upon learning of her pregnancy, Mary Jane was forced out of her home by her very traditionally-minded Midwest parents, On her own, she moved to California and joined one of the early hippie communes in the area. Shortly after the birth of her son, Mary Jane embarked on a “spiritual journey” living in the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. Thus, young Andrew spent his early childhood being carried around on his mother’s back. However, after many years of being away, the two returned to San Francisco where they resided in the Haight- Ashbury neighborhood until 1973, when Mary Jane died of a drug overdose.

Andrew spent the rest of his adolescence growing up in various foster homes. He lived in states such as Arizona, Kansas, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Kentucky, and Florida before ending up in Indiana. Eventually, one of these foster parents changed his middle name to Russell. Never a particularly good student, Andrew attended several various high schools during his youth eventually graduating from Greenwood High School, just south of Indianapolis, Indiana. He then went on to attend Butler University, majoring in Political Science with a focus on foreign affairs. While at Butler he met the young Heather Taylor of Evansville, Indiana, the daughter of a State Senator. It was also during this time that Heather convinced the agnostic Andrew to become a born again Christian. Together the couple graduated in 1984 and were married later that summer. Andrew received a full ride scholarship to Georgetown Law School where he excelled in his studies, while Heather taught school in DC public schools.

Upon Andrew’s graduation from Law School, he and Heather returned to Indiana where Andrew began practicing law. In 1988, Heather's father, Stephen, convinced Andrew to run for State Secretary of State. After a sex scandal forced the early democratic favorite in the primary from the race, Andrew narrowly beat out his other two opponents to clinch the Democratic party nomination for the office. He then defeated the Republican nominee in a narrow election, making him one of the youngest Secretaries of State in Indiana's history. Andrew and Heather currently reside in Evansville, Indiana. They two have two children: a son, Christopher born in 1988, and a daughter, Lilly born in 1990. Andrew spends his time between his Southern Indiana home and Indianapolis. He enjoys playing the saxophone, violin, tennis, and golf and also frequently volunteers to serve various local charities and church events.

Clark was briefly the Democratic party nominee for the Ohio Valley Senate Seat against Republican Jefferson McKinley, however he was forced to withdraw from the race shortly before the election due to a family emergency, allowing McKinley to easily coast to victory. However, a curious situation soon arose in Andrew's home district, Indiana's "bloody eighth." Congressman Frank McCloskey, campaigning for reelection, passed away during the campaign, in October, much too late to replace him with another candidate. Despite his death, McCloskey managed to win the election, automatically triggering a special election. This prompted Fmr. State Secretary of State Clark to announce his candidacy for Congress. He won the special election handily, in part due to his statewide popularity. Once he arrived in Washington, he was named Ranking Member of the House Budget, Infrastructure, and Commerce Committee.
