BIOGRAPHY - Justin Casanova-Davis was born in Detroit, Michigan to Luz Casanova-Davis & Shellie Davis. Due to his father being in the military, the family moved quite frequently to various countries and states. The family finally returned back to Michigan where Justin attended high school and was a star athlete. He was heavily recruited for football and baseball and chose to stay in his home state and play for the University of Michigan.
Justin attended college at the University of Michigan, he played 2 years on the football team before suffering injuries that ended his athletic endeavors. During his time at Michigan he double majored in Political Science & Economics
Upon graduating from college, Justin attended Georgetown University for law school and decided to join the ROTC program to follow his father's legacy of serving in the military. Upon graduating, Justin was sent to Europe as a military prosecutor. Following his departure from active duty he stayed in the military as a reserve officer which he currently still is.
Justin along with his wife and children relocated to Illinois when he was assigned to a regional support group during his time in active duty service. They continued to reside in the state and settled in Chicago, Illinois once he became a reserve officer.
Upon leaving active duty, Justin became an Assistant District Attorney where he was very proactive in prosecuting white collar crime along with corruption cases and had a very successful record as a litigator. In 1982, Justin was recruited by the Democratic Party to run in a State Senate race. Due to his diverse background, extensive work within the community and compelling message Justin won the race. During his time in the State Senate, he received notoriety for his willingness to promote moderate viewpoints and capability to transcend party affiliation to build bi-partisan consensus in the State Senate during his time there. During his time as a State Senator, he also worked with community outreach groups on issues such as civic engagement, anti-poverty initiatives and employment opportunities for those who were unemployed.
In 1988, Justin decided to run for Attorney General. Justin was backed by a large coalition of people from both parties, he ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and handily defeated his opponent in the general election.
