Bio:
Liberty was born at Fort Hood Army Medical Center to 2nd Lt. Henry Rhodes, and Lily Rhodes (nee Dylan). Her Father served two tours in Vietnam. By the time he was back from his second tour the war looked over and now he could spend more time with his child. The family would remain in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Liberty attended College at the University of Texas Austin and would major in political science. After completing her degree in 1989 she would then volunteer for Ann Richards Campaign for Governor in Texas. She worked as an adviser to Richards and is interested in running for Lt. Governor in the Heartlands.
In 1992 Liberty Rhodes took an opportunity to run in very crowded but full of unfamiliar faces Democratic Primary for Lt. Governor of the Heartlands. Rhodes Moderate and soft spoken tone won the primary with 39% of the vote. She would then challenge unknown Republican Lt. Governor Candidate Glenn Ross. Both campaigns having little money Ross disappeared for the final weeks of Campaigning. This opened up a lead for Rhodes which she road on into election night.
Liberty Rhodes would serve as the Lt. Governor of the Heartlands from 1993-1995. In 1994 she would switch from the Democratic to the Republican party citing social and economic political differences. Rhodes was also thinking about running for the Senate. After switching parties sitting Senator Brian Murphy disappeared and a Diane McFarlen was appointed to the seat. Considering McFarlen's shaky stances on the issues, her sometimes confusing statements, and her flamboyance, Rhodes decided that she would follow through with her plans to run for this senate seat, only as a Republican this time.
To do so however she would challenge McFarlen in the Republican Primary, ultimately losing by less than one point. The final results: 49.52% - 50.48%
After returning to her ranch in Lake Jackson, Texas Rhodes is planning her next move. she will be running for House in the 1994 house elections.
