Stringfield was born in Burlington, VT to Richard and Mary (Drew) Stringfield. He attended college at the University of Vermont and majored in Political Science. He graduated in 1972 and interned on the campaign staff of George McGovern. This brief brush with the fast paced campaign lifestyle imbued him with a desire to make this a career. After teaching high school for three years, Stringfield ran for and won a seat in the Vermont House of Representatives. He has served in that capacity since and is now making a run at Lt Gov for the NOR.
