Public servants and other denizens of the West! I'll be releasing approval ratings later this week. If you're interested in being included, PM me. Two things to note, though: if I get lots of responses, there's a chance not everyone will get numbers, so get your request in to me soon. Secondly, I'll run some 2018 matchups at my own discretion, but if you let me know whether you're interested in running for higher office, I'll keep that in mind when choosing who to run numbers for.

QUOTE (Porthos @ 08 October 2011, 12:11 )

And yes- the Irish Trade thing WILL be done. Apologies it has taken so long, but I have been slammed with work, required (yes required) exercise, etc. Have a nice weekend.
Apparently, it will be done should be translated to "it will never be done".
I want to apologize to everyone who participated for dropping the ball on that. I don't have any real excuses. I took a break and it just got easier and easier to stay on a break. I'll review the current news and game scenarios briefly and see if I can drop a news article this weekend that benefits those who did participate and who still play.
I've been keeping pretty busy in my "real life" and I've decided to ask the team to move me to Admin Emeritus status. I could promise to do a better job and a fresh start and all that, but after so many years at this- I think I'm just good and burned out.
I've got some cool side projects I've been working on in the interim, and I'll be happy to chat about those in the General Forum. Happy Govsimming all, best wishes friends, and again, apologies to all who participated in the Irish trade deal.

Are you already a lobbyist? Do you have a lobbyist multi? Do you want one? Now's a great time to try -- we've got a batch of contracts with bids due tonight, but very few bids have been submitted yet. Create a character and submit a bid -- you never know what you'll win, even by default.

USGS Recruitment DriveIn order to increase new registrations, USGS is holding a recruitment drive. Reach out and bring new players to the game, and you could earn IG rewards!
Rules: - Find friends, relatives, or strangers to create an account and play USGS!
- After creating an account, the new player must send a PM to Red telling me which player referred them. This PM must come within 12 hours of the time their account was validated.
- In order to get credit for it, the recruit must actually be a regularly active player for at least two weeks. While we will not set a hard-and-fast rule to define what is active enough, the Admins reserve the right to exclude a recruit for lack of actual participation.
- You will not get credit for referring anyone who shares your IP address.
Rewards: - Current players can get $100,000 for their warchests for every new active player they recruit. Housies can choose to transfer this reward to their party's House election warchest instead, but otherwise the rewards are non-transferable.
- All new players who join between now and the deadline, and who remain active for at least two weeks, can also earn $200,000 for their own warchests. It is not necessary for them to have been recruited to get this reward.
- The player who recruits the most new players will win a Grassroots Organizer reputation (entitling you to discounted org in every election you run in, among other benefits).
Deadlines: - The Recruitment Drive will run from today until 23:59 ET on March 13.
- Rewards will be handed out on March 27 so we can apply the two-week activity standard to all recruits.
Warnings:- The Admin team will be especially vigilant during this time period at policing illegal multis. We have always enforced a strict one-account-per-person rule, and any attempt to create a fake account for the purpose of exploiting this contest will be punished by permaban. Not worth it, so don't try.
- Please don't spam other boards, be an annoying jerk, or act in any other way that would damage the reputation of this website. If it would violate the TOS here, you probably shouldn't do it anywhere else. Failure to abide by this standard could result in your disqualification from any recruitment awards.

House Roll Call Bonus
At the end of the Recruitment Drive, the House will be holding a roll call, with election money on the line.
On March 14, we'll open a thread for each party, and keep them open for 3 days. Housies will post in the appropriate thread, and the party that gets more Housies to post in their roll call thread will win bonus money for their House election coffers -- somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 million dollars, possibly more or less depending on the margin of victory.
So, how to secure that precious bonus money? Work together as a party to recruit as many active new players as possible. Round up inactive players and bring them back to the fold. Help lots of people discover and re-discover the United States Government Simulation.
Not only will it help you win votes on bills and amendments, but it'll translate directly into IG monetary benefits. And more importantly, we'll all be helping improve the health and vitality of the game.

The announcement above is important for all players. Please read it.
For Heartland players:
Expect pop polls tomorrow (yaaay!). Should you not have alerted me to your presence in the region (Housies), please do so now with a PM - and if your sig does not include a link to your bio, your voting record and your press office (which I think it should), please include those links in your PM. Thank you.

One slight addition to the above announcement: when you post in the roll call thread please also post a link to your House character's bio. If you've already posted in the roll call simply edit the link to the bio in now.

As of this posting, all forums have been unlocked for Reset 9 to officially get underway. Once House leadership is set, the game will officially no longer be paused. Though, if you haven't noticed, the U.S. Senate is up and running. Governors should be in contact with their regional admin for clarification. For a reminder of administrator duties, please
see this thread. 2 days ahead of schedule folks!
Enjoy Reset 9!
P.S. If you have moderator powers (or as supposed to) and they are not working as you assume they should, PLEASE contact an administrator. Also, if you can see a forum that you know you shouldn't, please let an administrator know about that
as soon as possible. Kudos to Cauthon for already doing so.

I apologize for posting what some may not deem a noteworthy announcement, but I'd like to invite any and everyone to share a story of our old friend (
emphasis on old) Jack Magruder. We learned of his passing a little over two years ago. He lives on in our game today in ways that many will never know.
Share your stories, memories, and thoughts hereAnd don't get all sappy because he's still not afraid to hit the warn button in the Great Beyond.

Be sure to glance at Mal's announcement above.
We have decided that the Admin-Controlled President Clinton (me) will have a mostly NPC cabinet/senior staff. I will, however, be selecting two players to create multis and join the White House team. They will fill the positions of Chief of Staff, to help handle domestic issues and political matters, and the Secretary of State, for foreign policy.
For obvious reasons, I will have to take party into account for this selection, especially for the Chief of Staff. But I encourage players from both parties to send in an application for Secretary of State, if interested.
To apply, PM me the following:
Character Name
Character picture (not required)
Background (Educational, Professional, Ideology/Style)
How you would approach your role (What your character would say in a sit-down interview with Hillary.)
Please apply by this Sunday, April 29.
Just a heads-up, I'm wrapping up some RL school work now, but K Street should be up and running by this weekend.
Request Lobbyist masking
here if you'd like to participate! Remember to specify whether you want to be masked as a full-time lobbyist or a lobbyist multi.

26 April 2012, 11:30
Because it's come up a number of times, I'll clarify:
The two player positions I will be selecting to serve in the White House
will be multis, unless you (for whatever reason) choose to use your primary character.
Rules regarding Cabinet multis have been significantly liberalized since post-flash-forward last reset. See
this post for the relevant rule.

Applications for the two cabinet posts are open until tomorrow evening! There's still time to apply!

A new Partisans and Players will be coming out this week. I've received a ton of good material to sift through. Thanks to those who have done so already! If you haven't yet sent me material that you'd like considered (for yourself or attacking someone else), you have until Monday to do so.
1) The first batch of
K Street lobbying contracts have now been posted. Bids are due by 8 pm ET on Friday evening. If you tried lobbying before and found the goals too big and intimidating, you may be interested in the addition of subgoals. See
here for more info.
2) Politicians, don't forget about the
Shadow Room! Privately request an interest group's support for your bill or policy goal, and let our slimy black lobb-goblins do the dirty work for you.
3) Admins should be posting
Earmark request lists in each region shortly. Remember that governors can tack on their own requests, on behalf of the regional government only (simply reply to the admin's list). If you manage to pass an Earmark, please make sure an admin notices it so we can reward you handsomely.

The next P&P article comes out tomorrow. I've received about ten submissions so far! Please remember to get yours in by tomorrow. I won't be posting these reminders each week, so start getting in the habit of "everything in by Monday." As an aside, some of the submissions I have received truly reflect just how crazy some of you people are! Love it!
